'Yajnaseni' is really an awesome book, for any enthusiast of Mahabharata. I have read both Yajnaseni as well as Yuganta, and right now reading C. Rajagopalachari's Mahabharata. Mahabharata is truly a fascinating tale, no matter how much you read about it, you crave for more. I have researched and zeroed in on a couple of books for reading. If anybody has already read these books, please do share your reviews. Also, most of these are out-of-print, especially 'second turn'; does anyone have any idea, where to get it from?

Now you have really piqued my interest... in the same vein as the previous commenter, I recommend "Yuganta" - originally written in Marathi by Iravati Karve, and (fortunately) translated by her as well. She is simply awesome in her anthropological treatment of the Mahabharata.
..I *hope* that the love angle that you so tantalizingly hint at is not about Karna and Draupadi - because both Iravati Karve and Pratibha Ray (Yajnaseni) have been there, done that.

Pratibha Ray's much awarded novel "Yajnaseni" (RUPA) is recommended reading. For understanding the psychology of Draupadi and Kunti, see my "Panchakanya--the five virgins of Indian Epics" (Writers Workshop).
